Asphalt
Oval Track Stock Car Racing
Asphalt oval
stock car racing is the most popular form of racing in the northeast.
This type of racing is presented on paved, oval tracks ranging in size from one quarter mile to one mile in length. Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey contain over twenty paved oval speedways presenting asphalt stock car racing every weekend from April though October.
The Nascar-style
Modified Division
The S&W
Motorsports team competes in the Nascar-style modified division. Considered
to be one of the most advanced forms of racing in America, this class is
considered the premier attraction at northeastern paved tracks. The division
is considered by race drivers to be the stepping stone to Nascar Winston
Cup and Indycar Series competition, the top divisions in auto racing in
America.
Although the Nascar-style modified cars are referred to as "stock cars", they are not stock at all. The modifieds are high performance machines built specifically to be driven on asphalt oval tracks; they are considered "modified" because they do not resemble street cars. Their engines extremely powerful and the bodies aerodynamic for maximum speed. It takes highly skilled and knowledgeable team of people to maintain these cars; it takes a very talented person to drive them.
Many of America's most famous race drivers started in this division. In fact, Jimmy Spencer, brothers Goeff Bodine, Brett Bodine, and Todd Bodine, Greg Sacks, and Steve Park all Nascar stars began their careers in the northeast in this division. Nascar and Indycar star John Andretti, nephew of Mario Andretti, began his care racing career in a Nascar-style modified in the Lehigh Valley.

Sponorship
Advantages and Benefits
One of the most
strategic advantages in sponsoring a race car is its unusual advertising
impact. The impressive sight of a beautiful, colorful, fast machine remains
in the viewer's mind for years to come, only to recur when viewing future
events. The sponsor 's name on the car is part of that visual impression.
It is a fact that a sponsor does not have to be directly associated with the automotive industry to benefit from this form of advertising. Related consumer industries benefit as well. Airlines, hotels, restaurants, soft drink bottlers, food and household product companies, convenience stores, and appliance and apparel manufacturers are just a few of the industries involved in auto racing sponsorships. In addition, many local businesses of all types frequently are sponsors of race cars.
